Now that it is going to be shown in some US cinemas over the Christmas period, and probably much more widely afterwards, I've no doubt many people will enjoy it. What is indisputable is that the film has now gained much more attention following the recent furore than it would have done had it been released in the manner originally intended. It rather proves the old adage that "there's no such thing as bad publicity" - and it's great publicity when you've managed to get the President of the United States talking publically about it before it's release.
I'm in no way suggesting that Sony Pictures somehow orchestrated the cyber break-in (I dislike the use of the word "hack" for these kinds of attack) of their own facilities - that would make no sense given all the other collateral leakages that went with it - but I think it's fair to say that they've possibly found a way to get the best mileage they could out of the situation.
I'll be interested to see how it fares at the box office. I suspect the hype means it'll turn a tidy profit and the opinions of the critics will probably influence no-one. Well, they've never influenced me anyway but I'm like that.
